Transforming visual arts encounters into impactful experiences

There is a difference between simply visiting a visual arts or cultural institution and engaging meaningfully with what we see there.  At Creative Curriculums., our goal is to ensure that students who attend your institution or exhibition are equipped to deeply connect with the works they encounter – providing them with an experience that impacts them both personally and intellectually.

Our Approach

Creative Curriculums. approaches institutional arts and cultural education as a dynamic partnership between a museum or gallery and classroom teachers.

We provide institutions with engaging, challenging, and comprehensive educational resources which can be implemented by classroom teachers to prepare students for their visit, guide them while they attend the institution, and consolidate their experience when they return to the classroom.  These resources feature a combination of innovative activities and in-depth contextual and analytical materials designed to support teachers in the delivery of quality educational experiences based on your institution’s exhibition or collection.

Employing the most up-to-date educational techniques, our resources empower teachers to select the most appropriate content for their class context (the knowledge level, interests and needs of their students) in order to engage students with your institution’s work.  Guided by their teacher, students read, reflect, create, explore, and discuss – before, during and after they attend your institution.  This process of preparation, experience, and consolidation allows students to make meaningful connections between their lives and the artworks or artefacts they encounter – while also developing their knowledge and skills.

Accessibility is at the heart of everything we do and is the foundation of our pedagogical approach.  Some schools are equipped with expansive facilities while others have few resources – rather than see this as a limitation we see it as a chance to develop creativity and resourcefulness.  Our curriculums are specifically designed so that they may be implemented in any school context, regardless of the facilities available, so that all students can acquire the important knowledge, skills, and personal development to be gained from engagement with your institution.

Our programmes can be designed to be delivered entirely by classroom teachers OR to work in conjunction with curator talks or practical workshops carried out by museum or gallery staff on-site.

Each programme is fully aligned to the national Australian Curriculum – making them particularly suitable for traveling exhibitions that will be exhibited in multiple states.  Alignment to specific state curriculums is also possible.

Building a bridge from the gallery to the classroom

Creative Curriculums. is passionate about working with arts and cultural institutions to provide high-quality educational experiences that allow students to deeply engage with exhibitions or collections, while expanding their arts and cultural knowledge.

Drawing on our combined educational backgrounds in visual arts, literature, history, and classical antiquity, we engage with institutions whilst conducting our own extensive research process.  Gaining a deep knowledge of each collection or exhibition we work on allows us to translate the experience into meaningful resources that engage and challenge young visitors whilst equipping them with the context needed to confidently connect with the works.

Whether designed to be completely teacher-led or a combination of classroom-based and on-site programming, our resources can help your institution to engage with younger audiences.  We would love to assist your institution to further its mission by enabling you to offer a deeply enriching and rewarding educational experience for all students and teachers.

“Arts and cultural institutions open windows to worlds and experiences beyond our own - they illuminate the past, examine the present and help us to imagine the possibilities of the future.  We believe that museums and galleries have a key role to play in the education and development of young people by helping them to gain a deeper understanding of the world around them and the means to respond to it.”
